Super Simple Fermented Tomato Sauce

This tomato sauce looks and tastes very similar to bought sauce, but it has wonderful probiotic goodness and no nasties! Let the kids slather and dip everything! It’s good for them! Yay!

Fermented tomato sauce


  • 400g tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 TB whey
  • 2 TB apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp mustard powder
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp allspice
  • 1/8 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup honey


  1. Mix all ingredients well together in a large bowl.
  2. Put in jars and leave on the bench for 2 days, then refrigerate.
  3. Keeps for weeks.

This is a great recipe for upgrading a meal.  Many times I have run out of time and energy and we have just gone for a cheap quick meal for the family, but adding fermented tomato sauces helps to bring some nourishment to the meal. Pot this sauce into squeezable bottles and no one would know that it’s so good for them!
